Another new ground for me, and it is a decent ground at that.
Port Vale were by far the better team and should have been three or four goals up in the first half, easily. We were essentially toothless up front in the first half, and defensively we gave them too much time on the ball. Most of all, as a fellow supporter kept pointing out, we made too many basic errors. And there was not enough tackling or pressing.
For their first goal, as their guy raced clear, Bartlett was caught in two minds initially whether to rush out. He did in the end, practically to the corner of the area, and the guy took it round him and put it in the empty net. No covering defenders on the line I might add.
The sending off didn't really change anything, although it was a silly sending off from their point of view. Just a scuffle on the touchline when the ball wasn't even in play.
We did have a go in the second half with some half chances. We didn't seem to have a shot on target until late in the second half. And Leon really should have scored when he had the ball 10 yards out....but messed it up as ever.
2nd goal was Leon's fault, he lost possession deep in their half, the guy ran for about 70 yards I think unchallenged, laid it off for his mate to hammer home.
A few "We want Trewick out" chants, as well as Jimmy Harvey chants.
19 quid to get in was bad value for money on reflection. But it was a good journey to Stoke from Notts, and I was on time this time!
It's nearly impossible to award a man of the match, so I'll go for McQuilkin because he showed a bit of eagerness it seemed. (I wish the BBC would learn to spell his name right though).
Trewick isn't the man for the job, however much of a nice guy he may be. I've come to believe that we need a change of manager, and more players on permanent signings (or at least to the end of the season). I don't care who, at this stage as long as they genuinely want to play for our club and therefore have a bit of passion.
The return of old faces from the past could very well relight the fuse that will take us away from the Football League trapdoor.....which we are in ever-increasing danger of falling through.
